Oregon State University v Willamette University
Intercollegiate rugby ventures to Seaside’s Broadway Field on October 20, 2012 with the inaugural Mayor’s Cup match between Oregon State University and Willamette University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm. Admission to the match is free.
An Oktoberfest celebration will follow immediately after the match at American Legion Post 99, which is directly across the street from the field.
Oregon State is a member of the Northwest Collegiate Rugby Conference (NCRC) and recently toured to New Zealand during the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Willamette’s rugby team also boasts a touring tradition having visited Canada, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland over the last two tours. Willamette plays in the Pacific Northwest Rugby Football Union (PNRFU) Small College Division.
“We want to welcome everyone to the match and truly appreciate the community support the Mayor’s Cup has received. I know we will have some general information about rugby available at the match so there is no experience necessary to watch,” continued Scott. He concluded by noting that the social following the match is an important part of rugby tradition where teams, having just engaged in the battle of a match, join together as friends to celebrate their sport and their communities. Seaside Mayor Don Larson will award the Cup to the match’s winning team at the social.
